About Me

I was a Aircraft technician (fitter) for 8 years in mid eighties and nineties. Amongst other things went to a number of (troubled) Pacific Nations whilst with Maritime patrol. Left military and saw the world, including 8 years in the UK. Now back in NZ figuring out how to help UK brothers in arms knock  idiot veteran affairs (non!) representatives and what borders on treasonous decision makers (because they are impacting the ability to recruit a full compliment of personnel), off their Victorian pedistals and get them to adopt dispute resolution processes that their historic allies (Aus, NZ, Canada) have long ago embraced. I live on the opposite side of the world but just cannot sit by with these injustices taking place to you good people. This campaign is correct, good and just and by crikey it's got me hot under the collar. We have always had an unwritten commitment to help each other out in times of trouble, and I'm prepared to stand by that.

Yes I'm a Hughes. How weird is that? Better check, you are not the basist for Deep Purple or the 'Biker'character from the Village People are you, (our other name sakes) .Re kids, not as late a starter as me, mine are 8 and five, (both born on the 4th July just like one of my brothers strangly enough). Cheers Glenn

G'day Glenn,
Thanks for that reply, It would be nice too get recognized by UK/NZ veterans agencies, we lost many men from all services while i was on the Suez Canal, some like me Have the GSM with Canal Zone clasp, and the veterans lapel badge, but we had too wait 50years for them to award us them, that would be a nice idea, having a drink or two, if we win, maybe a drink on your way home too
Cheers, Jim

Hi Jim,
We have 18 acres just up the road from you near Amberley. We farm Olives, lucern, a few sheep, rabbits! and children. I work in Christchurch however as none of the above seem to pay the bills. The British establishments shocking treatment of their fine vets makes me feel sick. It honestly keeps me awake sometimes at nights due to the unfairness of it all. I'd love to think of a way I could help further. I understand that a NZDM is being consider now with the process expected to be finished late 2009/ early 2010. The current National government has given support for the NZDM via their veteran policy statement and with our ANZAC cousins NDM secured we should feel confident of a result I'd have thought. We should perhaps organise a celebratory drink together when/if our Kiwi gong comes through. Cheers to you.

Fate meant I served for the RNZAF. I am a Kwi first and a Brit second but fully support you. Do not be discouraged, you will win your very worthwhile campaign eventually. Be strong and go hard. This is a just cause.
