Well gents, having read again the NDM report it makes me wonder why we all took the oath and wore the uniform!! I have no regrets at all for doing what I did in my small way to show my willingness to serve this country if the poo hit the fan, but when I read of the faceless buerocrats, self appointed arbritators who are non elected, non approachable, answerable to no one who have probably NEVER served in any shape or form it makes me wonder!!
Just who are these people to decide what is worthy of recognition and what isn't?
No doubt these individuals will have knighthoods, life peerages etc bestowed upon them when they call it a draw, along with a nice pension, member ship of some exclusive club with all the privelige's that brings, and they will believe that they have EARNED it!!
Again, having read the report you can see why they are CIVIL servants.
I for one will watch the result of the next election, and, if this miserable shower get the chop then we shall see if Liam Fox is as good as his word.
To date I have recieved one reply from our earstwhile politicians in regard to my numerous letters/E mails, and that one merely repeated the sound bites from Coney and his wretched crew.
Hope springs eternal!!

Great to see how popular the Campaign Site is. We at UK Challenge Coins have produced a Veterans Challenge Coin, the UK Veterans Coin is for veterans of all the Armed Services, including serving members.

The reverse depicts the three branches of HM Forces.

£2.15 from every coin goes direct to Holidays 4 Heroes

Excellent! keep up the great work, they can't ignore the want of a National Defence Medal much longer!

Tim, you know I was thinking the exact same thing. Dug in around Stanley with the Rapier Sqn, it felt like they may come back at us. Nothing was taken for granted and that is certainly how we were briefed. Forgotten undervalued, nobody is interested. A breath of fresh air seeing this campaign wanting to see all of us remembered and valued, restore our dignity, God knows we were willing to do whatecer it took. Who are these politicians to judge us, they haven't walked in my leaky DMS boots!!

This is a much needed medal. I served in the Falklands after the conflict, it was still a war zone, still have live hostile minefields, still had regular armed patrols to secure the Islands etc etc and this service has never been recognised, even with the GSM. I even feel that the service by troops down there in the Antartic tundra is wholly forgotten about by the government, at least a medal like this may go some way to make us feel valued.

Les, theres no need to stand by for "incoming" because there wont be any; one thing we all have in common, volunteers and conscripts, is our service to defend your right to have and air your own views. The most striking aspect of your post is your clear lack of understanding of the campaigns arguments....read the NDM report! The report is not some cobbled together plea from a bunch of gong seeking wannabe old guys, its a carefully thought out considered factual case. In fact its such a comprehensive report the only defence the Govt and MOD have left is to point blank refuse to meet us, they cant even support their own objections anymore!...and as for getting our "facts right" about post armistice Korea...READ THE REPORT!...."incoming" is not needed, we stand by the merits of NDM report.

Just a comment ref Les putting his remarks on the screen.
Of course Les you are entitled to your opinion, thats what stimulates a healthy debate. I am sure you earned your medals, and well done to you.
The aim of this campaign is NOT to dilute the system or "Americanise", but to get the Government to show some appreciation to the thousands of ex service men/women who served, on leaving the service's having NO visible signs of having contributed.
I take it then that as and when the NDM is authorised you will NOT accept yours then?
Thats your choice of course. Just a thought, thats all.

Chaps keep up the good work, you are to be commended.
A word to Les, the campaign does not endorse commemorative medals, it has been stated many times an official medal would undermine that market. I'd suggest you start a thread in the forum if you want to debate the detail of the claim.

As we know the subject of medals can be emotive. The subject of post armistice Korea is covered in some depth in the NDM report. Remember W. Germany was classed as active service to 1955. The USA is not a good example and certainly not the model this campaign looks to. We look no further than our Queens loyal subjects; pick any from NZ, Canada or Australia. Any one of there systems look better than ours. Why did all elect tp leave the imperial system? Everybody is entitled to an opinion. If the case against the NDM is so strong why do they (Gov & MoD) fear leaving the decision to an independent body? Stifling debate satisfies nobody.

For a change, a post about not agreeing with your cause !
Good soldiering is a paid Job, like the Carpenter, Butcher or Plumber.
You don't get a medal for "serving" somewhere !
You don`t get a medal for engaging in a firefight with the enemy. That is what you are paid for. (I have been under direct fire many times)
There are then Campaign Medals if you Qualify or Galantry Medals for "over and above". All else, is the now,sad but usual, Americanisation of our systems, including our Military Decorations.
Stop trying to be American ! They are, by God, not a particularly good example.
It would be better if we ceased "bleating" and got on with the job.
You are sounding like those who wear those terrible and worthless fancy-dress blings from Award Productions.
(Arnold Schwartzman OBE was NOT on active service in Korea. He served there in 1956/7 and hostilities ceased in 1953.Here your facts are incorrect)
I shall await incoming.

Many thanks for the reply.
I will wait with trepidation then the reply from the Palace. Maybe if enough letters are sent to HM then that might give an indication of the depth of feeling?
