Early Day Motion - 327

Posted by National Defence Medal on December 3, 2009 at 4:09 PM

EDM 327 was first put down on 2nd December 2009

That this House notes the significant personal sacrifice armed forces personnel make in their service to the nation once they take the oath or of allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen; acknowledges our ex-service personnel are proud to receive and wear Her Majesty’s Veterans Badge, but notes that it is not awarded posthumously and it is considered by many to be insufficient recognition for the contribution veterans have made to the safety of the Nation since the ending of the Second World War; and therefore calls on Her Majesty’s Government to rescind their recent decision not to more appropriately recognise our veterans by the award of a National Defence Medal and instead to establish a working group to work with the Committee on the Grant of Honours Decorations and Medals, with a view to implementing a National Defence Medal as soon as possible.

NOW IS TIME TO START LOBBYING IN EARNEST

i no longer have any faith in this nations leaders or its people. i have served and continue to serve. my sons now serve as did my granfather before us and for what........... so scum urinate on a memorial. so some low life drugy can claim dole and that the nation owes him a living. so some muderer can claim unfair justice because he has serve a sentance only to have it reduced. so the old fear to leave home during the day never mind at night, even then some low life attacks them in their home. no........... this nation is not woth my time, our time past or present. my sons will make their own minds but will only realise the same one day.

Barry, don't give up on us all, there are still some many of us who do care about our Nations past and future. And hold to true to the values of our forefathers. We need everybody to pull together in the same direction.

I am now an Australian citizen since migrating from UK in 1958, having served in the Royal Navy 1947-1953. I don't know which MP to write to, to support the EDM. I really do think that it should be approved. It sounds to me that the UK Govt. is as slack and narrow minded as our Australian Govt. but I will say that our Govt. do look after their Veterans. I am still waiting to receive the Naval General Service Medal for service in the Suez Canal Crisis in 1952

Barry,
I agree 110% with you,I served 30 years(Army & Fire Service) for this greedy, selfish Nation and have nothing but contempt for the vast majority
of them.Sometimes I wish I,d never bothered, but because I have done that Service it makes me and all of us that served something special.
We are the real Britain.

Fantastic news Bill, we must try and get to all 646. A tall order but that is what they are there for. If they don't want to sign it will be interesting to see what justification they come up with.

I think that one of the things that will come out of the NDM is to put a little bit of pride back into this country. I've served in the Miltary, the Police and in the Prison regime and to say that there is an awful lot wrong with this country is an understatement and this government and previous ones have a lot to answer for. If by achieving the NDM we can put just a small bit of pride back from veterans and serving personnel, who feel so let down, then we have achieved something greater than obtaining proper recognition.
Let's be honest, some politicians have contributed to the decline of this country and milked the system for their own greed and ambition and they certainly do not offer any positive role models for the younger generations.
The political elite and society need to be educated about respect, honour and recognition and the best people to do it are those in uniform and those who have been in uniform. If we didn't have any pride or respect, would we be fighting together for proper recognition for thousands if not millions of people in this country who have served it faithfully!
So don't dispair Barry - the next time you see a piece of gutter trash defiling a sacred monument do what one of my old SNCO's always advocated- do it to him and see how he bloody well likes it!

I have sent over 30 to all different MPs with only 8 bothering to reply, Maybe because I live in Canada I do not carry any weight. One can only hope that we will get the support that has been promised so many times by these guys.
Merry Christmas to all veterans and serving personell.
